Business literature tries to classify people by age or generation. This classification can give an idea of what people want and the values they share, but this idea is only an approximation. In marketing this classification works well, but in your company you don't have generations, but individuals.
If you, as a leader, want to motivate them, you have to know what each of them is looking for at work.
A 24-year-old marketing manager who sees your company as a family looks for belonging.
A salesman of 60 who wants to do something big after a life of unsatisfactory work in other companies, seeks to be fulfilled.
An apprentice thinking of retiring at 55 is looking for security.
A recent mother who wants to work long hours and advance in her career, to show her daughter that anything is possible if you work hard, she does it out of love.
Belonging, security, fulfillment, love. As a leader, you need to know what moves your people and give them what they need, because then they will give you what your company needs. Age will not tell you.
Business Psychology can help you do that. If you want to know more, don't hesitate to contact me.
