Controlling where you put your focus is called meta-attention. Is one of the most important skills you can develop to be successful.
Try to do this simple exercise:
Schedule three hours to focus on something important you have to work on.
Plan a 15-minute pause in the middle for a walk. No screens allowed.
Put your phone in plane mode. Tell all the people that can interrupt you that you won’t be available during that time. Not even during the pause.
Do just the work you have planned.
If you get distracted, look at a screen or talk to someone unrelated to the work, draw a mark on a paper.
Use your meta-attention to get back to the task.
Once you finish, count the marks you have drawn.
Ready for the challenge?
Tell me how many marks you have drawn in the comments. ;-)
I wish you a great day!
