In 1985 James F. Sorce and his team did an experiment. They put babies on a surface that showed a cliff, protected by glass. On the other side was their mother. The setup was safe to crawl over, but the sight was terrifying.
Some babies crossed. Some didn’t. The difference? The emotional response of the mother.
If the mother expressed fear, the baby didn’t cross. If the mother expressed joy, almost all babies crossed, despite the fear they felt.
This is how leadership works.
Show fear, and they will stop.
Show love, and they will walk over cliffs for you.
